Our story

Our journey was born from the dream of bringing together the sea, the tradition of sailing, and a concrete commitment to protecting the marine ecosystem. From the vision of Francesco Nanni, founder and president of The Blue Dream Project, Mahayana was created: an 18-meter wooden schooner, built in Lunenburg (Nova Scotia) over the course of three years, following the traditional craftsmanship of North American master shipwrights and in full respect of the environment.
Originally conceived as the ambassador of an Italian-Canadian environmental project, Mahayana has sailed across the Mediterranean to support research activities and awareness initiatives on plastic pollution, collaborating with leading organizations such as Greenpeace, the Tuscan Archipelago National Park, and Marevivo.
Since 2020, she has also become an ambassador for Le Vele del Panda, a WWF Travel project offering citizen science cruises focused on whale watching. On board, researchers, students, volunteers, and engaged citizens have taken part in campaigns dedicated to protecting the marine environment. Today, this spirit lives on through the activities of our sports association, which offers both sailing holidays and courses designed for enthusiasts of all levels.
